World’s Longest Hot Dog and Bun Record!
                              The
Guinness World Record is broken as line bakers
                                create 104 foot bun!

Portland, Ore. - Each day almost one-million hot
dog buns stream off the lines at Franz Bakery
in Portland, Oregon. Franz, a Portland bread-making
landmark, turned 100-years old this year. To celebrate
this milestone, two Oregon companies joined forces
to set a world record for the longest hot dog
and bun on July 6th. And on Thursday, July 6 at
11:24 a.m., Franz Family Bakeries raised to the
                                occasion by baking a 104 - foot – 9 _ inch
long hot dog bun along with Hill Meat’s
(of Pendleton, Oregon) 105-foot-long hot dog.

The previous Guinness World Record for the longest
hot dog was 57.5 feet. Franz Bakery and Hill Meats
upped the stakes and were successful. 6 months
ago, they set out to break the record by partnering
to create - the World's Longest Hot Dog and the
World's Longest Bun. Each year, throughout the
summer, millions of hot dogs and buns are consumed
in the United States. What better way to celebrate
an all-American food icon and Franz's 100th anniversary
                                than with this amazing feat?

A special baking pan was secretly constructed
to accommodate the 100-foot-long bun. Dozens of
bakers assembled to gingerly feed the perilously-long
bun through the 100-foot-long oven. Franz Family
Bakeries had to temporarily remove the bakery
windows so the record-breaking bun could make
its way onto NE 12th Avenue intact (the street
had to be barricaded for one-hour and traffic
detoured). The bun literally stopped traffic as
the bakers ceremoniously place it on an official
measuring platform. The whopping 40-pound hot
dog was then nestled in its bun. At that point,
official judges determine if the World Record
has been set and confirmed the new official lengths
that were achieved. Guinness is now reviewing
the record for an official Guinness World Record
                                title.

After achieving success, it was time to take the
World Record setting hot dog and bun on a tour
of the northwest. On July, 7th – Franz Bread
and Hill Meat hosted a viewing of the world record
setting hot dog and bun at Portland’s Pioneer
Square. Both companies additionally hosted a lunch
                                – of what else – hot dogs with Franz
buns. The two companies fed almost 2,500 people.
Then again on July 21 through 23 the hot dog and
bun made an appearance at the Bite of Seattle.
The two companies made yet another hot dog and
bun – since two weeks is a bit long to keep
anything 100 feet in cold storage – had
more than 250,000 people come by during the Bite
of Seattle to see the world record setting hot
                                dog and bun.
